. NBOB . . .... Bonny -> DBSB . ....... Gap ..... OB . .. ...... ............ .OC .... RA . .. RC . .OA ...... . .. ODSD . .. ND ............ ........ UC <-Woo! .... OC I found a charlie upgrade station that might come in handy in the early game. It's a little way out, south of the Bonny Gap dock which dangles at the southern end of the big line of settlements extending south from the map origin. It's a little dangerous coming down here with pre-charlie equipment, as I encountered echo ships in the area. Still, raising any module to charlie class for 80 credits is a great deal. The white space between the map and this post is, sadly, unoccupied space. I don't feel ready to cross into uncharted echo and foxtrot territory, so I'll have to head back north a little to find another way around. If you want to post your own maps I recommend using the Preformatted Text tags, as these preserve the spacing. You can find the button for that near the middle of the top row of formatting buttons in the forum post editor. Let me know what you've found!

I found a nice pair of Charlie factories around -20x, +220y offering Delta level lasers and bubble shields that seem useful for getting started.

I've found two other upgrade stations so far: a UF near 130,290 and a UI near -67,-500, but probably the tastiest station so far is the bravo chronogear factory near 27,-371.
I've only seen one Juliet station so far: an oxygen node called Edwards Haven at about 318,382.

Oh nice! I've been pootling around with 4x charlie bubble shield for a while, and against foxtrot and golf weaponry they really weren't doing much. Now they're at foxtrot and I feel much more safe. Here's a map showing the foxtrot upgrade. The origin station is roughly SSW from here. .... .......... .......... .......... ........ ...... .. . . .... .... Coyne ........ Settlement -> UF .... OF . . OE SERE NF ..... OE . . ...... FCNC . ..... ...... OC .. . OC ............ SC .. .... . .......... ... .... .. . ....... .SFOFFF . ... ODND . ..... ..... .. .. OCNC ......... . NEOE .... "Coyne" is one of the few names in the location name generator not related to spaceflight. It's a reference to Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, since I listen to their music rather a lot while playing the Captain Forever games. Has anybody found a dock other than Bonny Gap? I'd like to have somewhere else to rest my vessel.

Wait, wait, farbs, did you not create this map? Are you re-generating them pseudo-randomly?

Maybe for the next version the map generator needs to be tweaked so that docks are slightly less rare. It's starting to get extremely prohibitive to venture very far out.

@vaconcovat - These are (pseudo) randomly generated, but from the same seed. That means we all get to see the same map, but I don't have to build it by hand each time.
There's a fine line between needlessly limiting content and encouraging people to play the same maps, and also making the game seem winnable. Perhaps it's more of an overlap than a line. I'm not sure. I have a bit more thinking and experimenting to do before I commit to anything here for the final release, but I'm considering releasing sets of maps over time. These'd be more than you'd expect most people to ever complete, but few enough that completing them all was a conceivable possibility.
I agree about the problem with dock scarcity. In this level they've felt far too rare. I'll analyze the map a bit to see whether they're more or less rare than they generally would be. I like the idea of some maps having more or fewer of these, and I don't want every map to feel like this one.

Has anybody found a dock other than Bonny Gap? I'd like to have somewhere else to rest my vessel. It's a bit out of the way, and it's India level, but there's a dock called Johnson Nirvana at 356,156. edit: and a Foxtrot level dock at 244,020 , and another right next to it.

you guys are looking at my map right? lol ive found a golf upgrade and dock sw of the spawn
theres a lot of question marks on my map cause im mainly seeking oxygen and nav beacons to get started.
once i find the first juliet upgrade station, ill be happy. right now i have about 30 golf bubble shields and 20 or so juliet lasers. so im pretty happy with my sustainability.
still havent found a single oxy tank...or repper and i think ive gone pretty far and killed enough to see at least 1...

Perhaps if you did that the problem would go away?

FarbsAh, I see. You are randomly generating the maps then giving us all the same seed. I know understand why you didn't know your own map. I say that this map is better than the first for an initial startup - the asteroid field is easier to navigate - but the lack of some stations (dck, rep) make it harder later on. I'm at echo and i have to keep going back to the initial dock.
