My problems:
Money doesn't have much purpose yet as the factories don't produce enough to make a difference on any ship, and it's too troublesome to push scrap to yards, especially with small ships.
Therefore, i have little incentive to activate more stations besides oxygen, navigation, and dock stations.
Then, there's the common problem of having to leave the game in a hurry, without first finding a dock and saving.
At the risk of stepping over my power as a tester, I would suggest some sort of hold for your ship, in which you can keep extra pieces. I would even go so far as to say that the hold should be large even on small vessels, perhaps it could be a part of the starting ship, inherent in the little red heart. Then if you quit without docking you don't lose your ship, but all the items in your hold.

So a warehouse station, for entire ships?

Or like an inventory. Warehouse stations too are not very useful for me because some don't hold a lot of parts and one also has to get parts to them by some means. As holding places for extra ship-parts they work, but extra ship parts don't come along very often for me when I have to leave so much on the battlefield.

Furthermore, several times I have had the luck to take down a much larger ship, and it leaves a large number of weapons or other add-ons that would change the tide of the game for me, but I don't have enough girders to add the weapons and engines, especially without creating a ship too heavy to move. I must then leave weapons behind that would give me enough power to take on greater ships and get the girders that I need. It creates a vicious cycle where I must wait a long time for just the right ship to come along that has enough weapons and girders to make a good prize but one that is slow enough to take down, and then I am still generally lacking enough engines to be a competitive ship.

I fully support the idea of an inventory of sorts, however I think for the game mechanics it would be better if it were a separate module.
The module would be able to store modules of any class, regardless of its own. However, higher classes would offer additional storage slots, and (obviously) more health.
The weight of the storage module would be the combined weight of the modules stored inside, plus the weight of the module itself. (this to prevent people from stockpiling weapons and shields and becoming invincible; the storage modules would eventually need several MK2 Juliet boosters to be hauled around)
Furthermore if the storage module is destroyed, half of the items inside should be destroyed at random and the other half should spill out as loose modules

Perhaps that very functionality could be given to the already existing station modules. It would make sense, such a large "deck" like girder being able to store several smaller ones ;D

That's a bit like going out iin the woods to survive with a backpack full of stuff to help you. If the inventory module is destroyed, are the other parts destroyed? If not, there could be a code for scoop shaped pirate ships that only aim for that module and once it's destroyed, scoop up all they can and zoom off!

This discussion sounds awesome! It would definitely solve many problems if there was a semi-rare or rare inventory module that you could quickly drag extra modules into after a battle. It would be even more useful if you could drag modules of a higher level than the level of the actual storage module, because most of my purpose for it, atleast, lies in being able to go back to a safe area and level-up my ship. Or even simply to save a few higher-level, perhaps rare modules that I happen to come across for use on my dream ship someday.

This would be useful for scrap collecting, to build up on credits. I always make a 3x3 warehouse out of girder modules in the middle of my ship. An inventory would be just fine. Just fine.

When ever I take down a ship with a lot of stuff I want to scrap I always make large bucket with truss or grider modules. The problem is that with a ship that has a lot of speed hauling scrap gets glitchy. Having the ability to drag all that scrap into a warehouse module of sorts would make a world of difference.
