Always wondered about this. I've beaten Forever and Successor a few times, and I had formulated a story in my head. However, I haven't seen much from Farbs or other fans that support the story I came up with. I imagined that initially, you are fighting for survival, with pirates attacking you at all times, trying to get a hold of your modules. You fight off the pirates and gain modules and power, but in the process become corrupted by the pursuit of power and eventually become what you were defending yourself from in the beginning, attacking peaceful ships to steal their modules. Ships are still attacking you, but it transitions from your attackers being pirates to you attackers being afraid of you to finally your attackers being some form of law enforcement trying to bring you to justice for being a menace and for the piracy you have committed. That was always my take on the story. However, others don't seem to agree. So my question is, if this is not the case, what exactly are the Peacekeepers?

I believe that they're just the remains of an all-powerful (but 'the good guys') authority. Peacekeepers, basically law enforcers. But, large amounts of space pirates overrun them, resulting in the strange-acting and malfunctioning peacekeepers we see today. I'd love to actually see the peacekeeper command that the info buoys tell you about in in successor and forever included in jameson.
Really, Ask farbs (He's very active here). But i'm sure its just an open end, for you to make up a story behind.

So you think that the Peacekeepers are totally unmanned (meaning not driven by a human at all), some sort of artificial intelligence?
It would be cool to see peacekeeper command, although some of the appeal of the Captain Forever series comes from the story being less than obvious (but nevertheless existent). The end of Jameson will sure be interesting, seeing what will happen in the final game when all the beacons are activated.

That would explain unethic-less explanation and enforcement of Peacekeeper laws. As well as the inefficiency.

Yeah... but what's with them saying "Cease fire, I come in peace" and then shooting you? Are they lying? Or is it something else?
