Enjoying Jameson 0.5 a great deal despite loosing my ship (forgot to dock at a station and did a reboot!).
I find the navigation of VMEDS unnecessarily clunky especially when the information is a 2D array such as the WARehouse (or REPair) station.
I do understand that it is both thematic, and designed to use keys in easy reach of the player's hand, but the layout is counter-intuitive when using the F-keys (which are by nature a horizontal linear array)...
Is there any reason not to allow the use of the cursor keys (in addition to the F-keys if you like) or the numeric keypad with a more logical layout such as...
0 Menu Up 4 Left 5 Select / OK 6 Right 8 Up 2 Down
This would even allow the use of diagonals on 7 9 1 and 3.
Or why not allow the use of the flight controls? WSAD and Space would seem ideal!
I guess purists may feel that this destroys something of the atmosphere of the game, so it could all be toggle-able in the options.

I'd like to be able to just use the mouse for the VMEDS, but WASD for navigation and space for [enter] would be good too. I hate having to press 5 and 6 for up and down at the repair stations.

I like the VMEDS but i also agree that it hurts the game more than it helps it when navigating a 2d array.

I'd also like to have a more intuitive command layout for the repair and upgrade stations. While repair stations do have that nice repair-all feature, there's no equivalent for an upgrade station. This makes using them very exasperating and time consuming to use.
So, WASD, arrow keys, or numpad control would be nice.

Why not change it so that the "purists" ( ;D ) can use the F keys and we can use the arrow keys, but anyone can use either one whenever?

This bugs me too, I'd like to use my numpad.

I think moving the keys to the numpad would make it alot easier and still fit with the theme. Make it an option, though, like "alternate VMEDS interface"

Using the regular control keys would work fine as well. A lot of us play on laptops and using the number pad would be a hassle. Having another alternative to the number keys/number pad would be wonderful.

I agree with the issue, after all this time I still end up hitting the wrong buttons. I vote regular flight controls, much more intuitive

Just writing in to say that I agree. It would be much more fantastic to navigate by using some other scheme. WASD or arrows etc...
