So, does anyone, in their space* travels, have any rumors taken from the denizens of the various stations across the sector** they would like to share? Stories, perhaps, of bootjacker attacks and close calls?
I'll start with one of my own. I've been hearing rumors of a "secret weapon" that is being propagated in the third sector** of this space plane***. In all of the stations I have visited, many people have thought hard about what this "secret weapon" is. Some believe that it is a top-secret space government project that somehow defies the laws of anti-matter existence. Others believe it is a radar jamming device that manipulates time and space. In any case, I find these theories to be absolutely ridiculous. The only thing that has me on the lookout for more info is the name the commoners have given this weapon. "Spacewhale".
That's all I got.

Whenever I dock I always swing by the lounge to see a game. Texas Hold'em is really popular these days, it's an ancient planet-side game that made a revival a few cycles ago. Recently, I hear that some player by the name of +EV has been banking enough credits to become his own pilot! Can you imagine that, some station-hand becoming a pilot. They do nothing but sit around dusting circuits in jammed stations, but THIS one made it lucky. Sure is nice to hear about good luck like this in such a violent universe.

All I can contribute is how many dead pilots my search parties have been finding barely half a kilometer from the OXY stations...

May I bump this? I relatively like this non-combat-related culture. Anyway, I've always kept hearing about the famous rumor that says that, while it's not publicly announced, when the Peacekeepers created the ranking system back in the 2150's, they provided space for a twelfth class - Lima, I would assume. No one really knows if it's true or not, but it SEEMS likely because we've had the technology for a century already, and the only reason we're not there is because the Peacekeepers outlawed further exploration in that direction. Personally, I believe they already have Lima-class modules in reserve, just in case there's some breach or uprising or something. Praise the Lord that we haven't already experienced such an event. Now, what color Lima modules would adopt I have no idea, but I did have a dream once where I was at a station that had Lima and even Mike-class modules; they took the pattern of pink and green marble like you'd find on the background of those old screensavers - similar to this: bgfons.com/upload/marble_texture1809.jpg

A massacre at Haynesport? How long ago? Based on what's been going on in sector nowadays I won't be surprised if the Peacekeepers send a detachment. Incidentally, we finally lit a beacon today; maybe that will let someone know we're here.
And the only reason 68 would be old for a profession is if it was low-maintenance and didn't pay much. Mining does fit that, I suppose. Usually the contractors fund just enough Credits to make mining a tedious, but not boringly monotonous job, so people tend to become independent pilots as soon as possible. Ever since the big revolution in the 2020's people have been living much longer, which is why the authorization ladder is so steep. I'm not going to be eligible for Echo until June next year - still over a year away. (Of course, while on the Charon Mission, Farbs has my authorization covered)
In any case, maybe it's lucky the guy got captured when he did. We really don't want anyone running around firing those kinds of lasers at 4Hz (you know, the Lima-class lasers I'm absolutely positive they have on notice). On the other hand, I think the Peacekeepers probably should know who is the real leader of Earth and her colonies.

OFC: As the sort of backstory to these games aren't laid out or even really discussed, I'm probably going to only write about my own hypotheses, such as the idea that the Peacekeepers aren't the benevolent force they're made out to be, and that there's widespread poverty, terrorist parties and criminally insane religious cults hanging around everywhere. And of course, there's always the issue with those Clone ships we see (and indeed, create) in Impostor and Successor. I'd like to make some ties between them all, even if they're not what the creator might have already laid down privately.

Well, there's actually a very good explanation for those: you see, unlike the Self-Correcting Harmonics Device, which Farbs has patented, anyone with a good chunk of Credits can purchase or build a relatively-good Clone Drive Device with little effort. Electrical power doesn't come cheap, of course, but it is probably worth it in the long run. Hey, if I didn't have to spend time and money looking for good modules, I would be pretty happy too, except for the fact that the CDD takes the fun out of busting up those ol' jackers.

So you're saying it's available tech'? The design of Imposter seems to suggest it's something wrong in it's entirety, a glitch perhaps. This is extremely likely considering the other ships can't even see your pixelating, warping, worm-like "ship" until you've cloned something to make you physical.
I suppose there are 'Deeper' sectors, in which bizarre stuff like this happens. Perhaps we'll have actual answers, perhaps even more story in Jameson. For now I'm contented with discussing theories though.

If other ships couldn't see the Impostor in regular form, they wouldn't be swarming in to attack it, yes? And anyway, a lot of those ships look vaguely familiar to ones we see all the time - everything from novice Alpha-level pilots to massive Balanceist constructions are there. Clearly this technology has gotten around a bit. The CDD is quite controversial even today, which explains why it's limited to only a few, underground sectors.

Is there a date for this transcript? This appears to be talking about our current system of module attachment, which was developed quite a long time ago...almost about the time of the first Alpha weapons. 2080, thereabouts.

Actually, regarding my last post, I am afraid to say I made a miscalculation. Since the Peacekeeper Command only formed at the end of 2150, this couldn't have been prior. Almost have to wonder what a whole Juliet-ship would have looked like without MicroMag attachments. Right after the invention came about, nearly every module in the colonies was equipped with it. The beauty of it is MicroMags take the tracing color of the attached module, so you don't need to make eleven different ones for the tiers.
I tell you what would be interesting: If every Separatist had the resources to equip with Hotel/India/Juliet, there would be quite a bit of good space warfare going on. See, unlike those old space programs from the 1960's to the 2010's, there really haven't been any major battles in space. It's disappointing, really; I'd love to see some sort of conflict in the Belt. That way we can really grind up their forces.

OFC: If I may, Auburn, the colouration you see for each individual tier purely relates to it's quality, as you know, but everything in the Forever series is depicted through a VGUI - a representation of that ship. So in reality, those modules could look like anything at all, but their statistics are consistent through manufacturing, and as I've imagined, the abilities of the magnetic construction device your command module has. I'm trying to rationalise the gameplay elements in the form of lore and story, although it's just really creative output for me, and shouldn't be taken as concrete literature.
I'd like to formulate a timeline, if you would like to help me with that, we can discuss that in a new thread if you like? But otherwise, I'm planning on simply releasing a bunch of transcripts to, as I said, add reality to the game. Whatever backstory Farbs actually includes is entirely concrete.

Hold on. If Lima mods exist, than does that make my/Oz's rank chart in Beginners Hints/Tips valid? Because I already calculated the stats of Lima-or-higher mods correctly after revising the table.
