I think it'd be better to have the most votes rather than views, because then you are looking at people's opinion of the trailer rather than how many people simply click it to see what it's like. The official "Friday" video doesn't have lots of views because it's a good song, it has so many views because people go there to post abuse and stuff on the comments page.

I'm going to start a new game and record everything. I'll have enough choice for editing by next week.

I'd have thought there'd be more interest - this is gonna be a lonely competition, darkond200.

Oh well, the prize is still up for offer. If you'd like to use the CF voice for your own dialogue you can use this tool here: www.farbs.org/LofiLarry.htmlYou can also find the original trailer music here: www.farbs.org/?p=150Please credit Andrew Leys for this if you use it.

Quick question: If I wanted a links page at the end, does that mean I can have 60 seconds of trailer, then, say, 20 seconds of links? Or do I have to fit the links into a 1 minute video?

I'm not strict on the 60 seconds. You can have as much footage AFTER the trailer as you want, as long as you define when the actual trailer ends.

Well, I'm half way through making a 60 second trailer with 20 seconds of links/credits. Do you happen to know roughly how many people are entering? I've counted 4, including me.

I feel really stupid for recording Jameson footage in Inferno. The only way back to the Docking Station was through a really tiny gap in the hot rocks. So I stripped my ship and dragged all the parts onto the other side, apart from a booster and girder, which I dropped in a hot rock. At least they were only Alpha. So then I tried to really slowly get through, and before I was even near the gap, I somehow managed to crash into a hot rock, which killed me instantly. I thought it would only do a little damage, but no, I've lost all my parts and destroyed the Charon for my first ever time. I can't film my return to the Docking Station now without a big continuity problem so the trailer might end really weirdly.

How's this?
The actual trailer is done, but I'm still working on the part afterwards.

Hmmm, not enough close-ups of the ships... plus it would be better if the features were explained more by video imagery than by subtitles. As it is the subtitles is somewhat distracting because it competes for attention and the fact that most of the gameplay is zoomed out makes it even harder for the actual video to stand out more than the subtitles. I ended up spending more time reading than watching the video, and having to rewatch the video 2 or 3 more times to catch all the words and footages I missed is not very elegant.
I'd recommend to keep the subtitling short and sweet, or better yet, re-compose the video so that it tells the story/features without the need for subtitles.
Might be a good idea to start with a rough storyboard to help you along.

It was hard to cram in all that I wanted to get across given that I wanted to do a trailer for the whole series. I wanted a lot of closeups, but with some of the big ships I thought faraway shots would be better; for example the Piestation moment would never have worked if zoomed in. Thanks for the feedback, though.

I'm going somewhere without many computers this Saturday for two weeks, so I won't find out who wins and I can't make big changes to my video. However, I will upload a non-subtitle version, which should look nice as it can look more like the original Forever trailer.
Latest subtitled version:
Name: Captain Forever Series Trailer (subtitles) URL: Duration: 1:20
Almost no subtitles:
Name: Captain Forever Series Trailer (almost no subtitles) URL: Duration: 1:20
I'd like to enter the nicest one ;D

What is the policy on using music from movies and such?

The competition winner is decided by viewcount, though we may have to wait a few days after the upload deadline for views to filter in.
Regarding music, I think if it's okay with youtube it's okay with us.
