What fiction/information about the universe of the Captain series exists? Is most of it covered by the wiki? Seems quite sparse to me currently and would like to dig a little deeper to research for a possible art project.

Possible art project? What could that be?

Possible art project? What could that be? I don't know but I want to see it.

Thanks Farbs, the interview was interesting. I wouldn't get your hopes up, I'm just working on some drawings based on Captain Jameson in particular. I'll be happy to post them when done.
One query Farbs if you have the time; the grid in the background for Jameson, am I correct in assuming that it's a planetary surface, and the stations are placed upon elevated areas on different planetoids within the sector?

You are incorrect ;D
The 3d mesh is actually supposed to be some sort of sensor reading visualization. I haven't decided if it's an EM spectrum reading or a measure of particulate matter, and will probably deliberately keep that vague so that I can muck around with it as required.
It looks a bit like islands though and that metaphor suits the gameplay really well if you ignore the fact that you're supposed to be out in an asteroid field.

Ah okay, well that is unfortunate, I had grand visions of stations built upon spires on little planetoids spread out within the asteroid field.

Out of boredom I decided to write Captain's Logs for my playthough in Captain Jameson. Various stations I met along the way were abandoned, were defending themselves from incoming pirate attacks, etc. I have no idea how to explain greyed out stations besides my interpretation that the radar jammers are pirates oppressing the locals. Picked a few stations with only oxy stations; I considered them ravaged near-completely by the pirates so that what's left in their colonies is but an oxy station.
I also made up an excuse for 0.2's "storyline" - the Juliet stations have flux capacitors that send out logic-defying long-burst radio transmissions that can call all Kilo Peacekeepers outside the sector to come in and clear the area. Why and how I have no idea and I don't want to know anymore.
These are my stupid attempts to provide a different backstory to Captain Successor.

I think of Captain Jameson's story as similar to Magrathea's in the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - during some horrible incident, the station occupants put themselves into cryosleep until it was over, and created their individual Guardians to protect their stations from boot/jackers. Then you have to go around waking them all up by getting past the defence systems. This plot has lots of holes, but I love that the backstories aren't spelt out for you and they are open to interpretation.

Been a while, but finally got around to actually working on this, sorry for the delay. Haven't taken it into photoshop yet to do the paintover, background & detailing etc. but thought the render had it's own charms. My take on the modular ships if taken into the 3rd dimension, inspired by the chunky geometric ship greebling from the likes of Alien & Star Wars.

That's beautiful. Nice execution, I love the thruster vanes. They're the perfect 3D version of Captain-series boosters.

Sorry for the crazy delay on this, but it got stuck in-progress for a long time. This was as far as I got before getting too frustrated with it (I'm an amateur at 3D work, and stupidly tried texturing post-render instead of actually 'skinning' the model.) Didn't get around to adding more lights and details/decals and whatnot, but there you go.

Good evening.
Last night, I worked for about two hours on what could be a relatively stable timeline for the events leading up to Captain Forever and its derivatives. Before I present my theories, I would like to present a possible clarification: As we know, barely anyone was in space in 1990, let alone in a ship with weapons...you get the idea. Here's what I'm thinking, then: Because space travel is expensive, and time is not as useful in space, ship builders could save money by implementing computers with 16-bit Unix time counters rather than have expensive atomic clocks embedded into the interface. Thus, when a timecode such as on the Nemesis displays 1994, it wouldn't actually be 1994...it could be 2130...it could be 2266...or so on.
If we were to calculate exactly two full Unix revolutions ahead of January 26, 2014, excluding differences in time of day, we would arrive at May 12, 2266. This, I believe, is the current date in the Captain Forever universe.
Now that that has been clarified, my timeline is as follows:
2010's/2020's: Earth unifies into one government, government undergoes revolution, overthrown, replaced with a more stable one.
~2035: Space travel becomes more economically feasible. ~2044: First manned mission on Mars begins laying out a colony. ~2065: First station clusters open up in asteroid belt. ~2080: First railgun "lasers" begin development (today's Alpha class) ~2100: Development of 2nd-generation lasers begins (Delta - Foxtrot) ~2120: Development of 3rd-generation lasers begins (Golf - India) The Prismatic Laser begins development. ~2145: Development of 4th-generation lasers begins (Juliet - Kilo) ~2150: The Peacekeepers are established. Further railgun development outlawed, modules divided into current rating system. Kilo reserved for Peacekeeper use only. ~2150 - 2180: Weapons in Successor are developed. ~2180: Invention of the Self-Correcting Harmonics Device (SCHD) ~2200: Invention of the Clone Drive Device (CDD) 2259: Farbs McFarbs constructs and launches the Nemesis. 2262 25 June: (2010 11 March) My registration as a ship pilot. (My first time playing Captain Forever) 2263 11 September: (2011 30 May) The Charon Mission goes underway. 2266 10 May: (2014 24 January) My joining the Charon Mission.
If it sounds absurd, that's alright - I know I haven't explained everything I have down. Questions or thoughts?

Nice job on the timeline. Why do I have the sudden urge to go make new levels of modules?
