Saw and fixed that one, I try to check it at least once a day until I let other people fix things =D

I've created the a login system so you can now actually create accounts and log in, which doesn't let you do anything extra yet, but it's a start.
As with any internet things - Standard advice applies, don't use any uber secret passwords; they're all hashed using one of the more secure hash functions so they should be safe, but unless you can view the database, you only have my word for that =D

Today was my vacation from vacation day and spent most of it tracing the perimeter of the map.
Found the 2nd beacon and the 1st bubble shield factory. I believe that I have found all stations in both southern quadrants and the north east quad as well. Unfortunately I'm not positive of this, and the map will always reflect the # marks if no nav station is found.
I haven't found a single station outside the +-500 range anywhere on the map. I did find some asteroids in south east that go to -515y.
Also, I severely jacked up some new juliet nav station coordinates in south east. The 2 factories with symbols should be at accurate coordinates, but everything else is suspect for anyone using that section as a guide.
I created a login for the site under same UN (ggoDeye) so it should be easy to scrap the 1st 2 nav copy/paste uploads. I believe the 3rd is dead on.

Thanks for that, I logged in to the database from work and bumped the pieces around. Hope to add in the bits so you can alter your own pieces this weekend. Great work with the outer edge

Looks like the 3rd beacon is going to elude me. I have done a (what I thought was) thorough sweep of the entire map perimeter and not encountered it. Methodical grid sweeps of the entire map are too time intensive for my tastes.
Also no juliet upgrade stations yet. Anyone know if Farbs' map generation method specifies upgrade station/tier =1 or <= 1?

Hmm, wonder where that last beacon could be hiding =O
I've patched in a small update so you can now edit pieces and stations you have entered - it will only work with pieces and stations entered from this point onwards though; hopefully that won't be too much of an issue as I think most are correct. I'll add deleting next and then some more useful things like exporting to txt etc.

Also no juliet upgrade stations yet. Anyone know if Farbs' map generation method specifies upgrade station/tier =1 or <= 1? That's not how it works. I can tell you that for sure without running another number run through. Farbs doesn't have control over the generation of any stations besides the ones that he forces to exist, the original alpha base, and the three beacons. I suppose I didn't summarize the last set of data I did for those of you who don't care to look at a huge glob of numbers. Here's what you should know. 1. Warehouse is in the least likely to appear category along with banks, upgrades, and docks. 2. The probability that each station will appear is different in "inferno" mode. Every "likely" station appears to have been downgraded to second tier except Factory. This is part of what makes inferno mode harder.

Here is the complete pricing scheme for Factories in .3 and .4
Tier ----A ----B ----C ----D ----E ----F ----G ----H ----I STA- 0000? 00040 00080 00200 00300 00600 01000 03000 05000 STAN 00040 00080 00200 00300 00600 01000 03000 05000 10000 STA+ 00080 00200 00300 00600 01000 03000 05000 10000 20000 PREM 00100 00200 00500 01000 02000 04000 08000 20000 30000 CHRN 0000? 00400 00800 02000 03000 06000 10000 30000 50000
Parts List by Tier
No Known factories: Transrotator, Rocket Lawnchair, Oxygen Tank, (Girder) Standard - : Ramming Spikes Standard: Booster, Sprint Booster, Twin Booster, Unibooster, Translocator, Laser, Sprinkler, Torpedo Launcher, Planck Shield Standard +: Booster Mk. II, Prismatic Laser, Snipe Launcher, Premium: Blurst Shield, Bubble Shield, Repair Chronogear: CHRONOGEAR!
P.S. Here's a fact which will never come in handy. The premium pricing scheme is determined by Price = 2^(6+X) where X is the station rank. Then the numbers are rounded to one significant figure.

Haha, awesome fact. There's a man who likes his numbers =D
If that pricing chart stays the same I'll use it populate the price field, one less thing to type.
If there's any kind of dumping of data that would be useful to you let me know.

If that pricing chart stays the same I'll use it populate the price field, one less thing to type. I'd go ahead and do this. The danger is that Farbs may at some point decide, for example "Oh, translocators are really powerful," and move them up a tier. He doesn't have any responsibility to tell us that he's doing that just because I brute forced the pricing scheme. So, we'll have to keep an eye out for any changes. If there's any kind of dumping of data that would be useful to you let me know. One thing that I wanted to try but didn't have time to do was count how many of each type of station exist by rank (i.e. color). In fact, this idea was brought to my attention by ggodeye's post above.

Have others found that using the using the map takes a lot of fun out of the game? I'm about to start Alpha 4 this evening and am going to attempt to avoid the map until I secure my first Juliet station.
jayce, would it be easy to allow registered users to create their own map? That way we would know where everything we visited is, but still get maximum enjoyment from discovering most things on our own.

I'll try and do some stat dumpy thing this weekend, and auto populate prices. That's very kind of you Farbs, ta =D
ggodeye: I actually agree with you on that, and it's sort of why the map thing is so clunky, I only made a script for myself and then decided to add others to it. I find I love discovering and adding stuff to the map - that's far more fun than referencing it.
It's hardly any work to chance it so registered users get their own maps (I just stop it bringing back pieces that don't belong to you). Almost by necessity once we're out of alpha/beta I think everyone will be playing different maps anyway (unless the same seed is used- questions for Farbs?) so my current map choices thing will no longer really work.
I'll try and add in an option this weekend so you still have the choice of using all the pieces, or just your own.

I've chopped in a little link on the navigation bar for registered users labelled something like "Only use my data" so you can toggle between using everyone's pieces or just sticking with yours - it should persist between sessions.

Hi, I added a map piece to the .4 regular map, and I assumed it would strip out the @, | and - signs from the copied text. Are we supposed to strip those manually?
|
|
|
Post by jayce on Aug 18, 2011 5:53:42 GMT 10
Ah, it doesn't, but only because I always had them stored in text files and I never had those characters turned on when exporting. I'll delete the ones that are there and try and change it to strip them if I have some time.
Ta!

I like how the eastern beacon is in a grey area on the cumulus map. What happened there?

I forgot to strip the ships from the map piece I just uploaded to .5. Is it possible that this can be fixed?

I think that eastern beacon has just been discovered, but there are no Nav stations nearby.
I stripped out that map piece for you nemoricus; if you sign up/in you can edit pieces you upload, but I really need a free weekend to clean stuff up and let people delete =D
