The other Thread seems to have gotten old and stale so I decided to rework the Balanceist posts into this new thread. If I get some more recent feedback I'll continue to upload new posts from time to time. Enjoy!

The delta command module looked perfect, not a single dent or scratch on it, and the delta girders glowed a deep red, but the best | | part was the twin foxtrot laser cannons mounted on the front. My fingers twitched, just thinking about pulling the triggers and letting loose a barrage of death upon... | | The unbalanced... | | | | I gave my goodbyes to my brothers and sisters of the order, and climbed into my ship. After siting myself in the cockpit I powered up the ship, the ship greeted me with a deep hum of the | | generators powering up. I smiled, a name, I need a name for this ship, i thought. As per our religion, everything must be balanced, even our own names. So I came to the conclusion to call | | my ship, Eve. Eve, I said to myself, alone in my ship, as the bay doors of our generation ship opened. The communicator flashed, and the ship's bridge gave me the all clear for departure. | | Grabbing hold of the controls I powered up the main thrusters and released the mag-locked landing gear. I could feel the power surge through the ship as she hummed with glee, ready to | | spread her metal wings and fly. I smiled and threw the controls forwards, the ship flew forward, the walls of the docking bay blurred past as I was yanked back into my seat. The exit of | | the bay doors rushed forwards, and at last I plunged into the void of space... | | | | Hundreds of stars filled the display of my cockpit, and the giant gas planet Jupiter gazed at me with it's red eye... | | I set the coordinates of my destination to a outpost which followed my path of balance, to my final destination... You make a very good point - we're over 200 years into serious exploration of space and the farthest we've colonized is the asteroid belt. Time to go farther?
Actually, I'm fairly sure we have the technology to install floating platforms in and around Jupiter. From there it's only a short jaunt over to Europa, Io, possibly Titan, but definitely oodles of natural resources and materials! They're also too far for pirates and jackers to reach from most of our sectors. The opportunities make my mouth water!

I've never seen a written story in such a long time beyond the Successor campaign...and yes, Auburn is correct. We really do need to expand ourselves outward away from the chaos.

We really do need to expand ourselves outward away from the chaos. Now it's interesting that you say that, because I've done a bit of reading on what the Balanceists call the 'Great Cleansing': "I smiled thinking about how our teacher at the academy spoke of the great cleansing, made me wish that I was born a hundred years earlier so that I could have experienced the holy war first hand."Which of course refers to the Inner Colonial Campaign (2150-2153), the very first operation of the Intergalactic Peacekeeper Society. It took place primarily in and around Mars but featured combat in every sector inside Martian orbit. This war is why 99.8% of piracy-related incidents since 2200 have occurred in sectors in or bordering the Asteroid Belt. So really speaking, is our current domain that chaotic?

Their ships were a mess of scraped parts ranging from Alpha | | to Charlie haphazardly welded in no apparent form, unbalanced. So unbalanced that it sickened me, as I grudgingly answered their calls. The ships screen | | displayed a wild haired man, his green hair formed into a large Mohawk, he seemed to be missing the lower half of his jaw which was replaced by a rusted | | metal attempt of a prosthetic. He smiled, or at least that’s what it looked like with his mechanical iron jaw. “How`d ya doing today mista?” the pirate | | said in a heavily digitized voice, which led me to believe that it wasn’t only the lower half of his jaw he was missing. “Fine”, I said horrified by the | | unbalanced thing that Eve displayed on her monitor, “I am fine”. “Welp, that’s good, Im hapy to be hearing dat” replied the pirate, his smile growing as | | his beady eyes began to twitch. “Wel, ya see here mista theres a… taxing round this here sector. An I don wana ruin ya fine day, so lets us say, you | | hand over say… 100 creds?” retorted the pirate, his smile sending a chill down my spine. The filthy unbalanced thing wanted 100 credits? I was only | | given 50,000 sub credits at the time of ceremony, that wasn’t nearly enough. I hesitated before I spoke, “I’m afraid I don’t have enough to pay you”, as | | soon as the words left my mouth, the pirate`s creepy grin vanished. He then started to laugh, “Welp, Im fraid that your fine day, aint gonna be fine no | | mor mista…”, as soon as he finished he cut the call. I looked up, horrified to see the three pirates forward cannons begin to glow. | | | | Instantly I grabbed at the control stick of the ship, pulling it into a hard turn to the left as the pirates fired. Arrows of light flew past the | | display and the ship leached as a few found there mark along the right side of the ship, warning lights began flashing as the ship cried in pain. I | | brought the ship around, and let my combat flight training take over. I primed the forward guns, as I began to strafe the pirates. One blasphemie of a | | ship, didn’t seem to have much turning power, which I targeted first. I squeezed off one salvo into the Alpha girder that held together the right side | | of his ship. The girder exploded in a plume of fire as the oxygen tank within it was ignited, and the other half of the ship tore free and spun out, | | rotating around it axis uselessly, however it still continued to fire, grazing the left face of my ship. Suddenly I was rocked to the left, as a Charlie | | missile found its mark turning one of my other Charlie girder to a smoldering wreck, red lights bathed the cockpit and further wails of pain came from | | warning notifications, as I turned Eve around to face the other ship. | | | | The other two ships lit the monitor in a furry of red light pumping beams of light into the darkness of space. I threw the ship into a barrel roll, and | | fired everything my twin Foxtrot cannons had to offer. Orange beams, brighter than the other laser salvos, tore the two pirate ships apart. --- were | | reduced to scrap, ramming spikes blew free and thrusters overloaded into brilliant fireworks. I didn’t stop firing until Eve pleaded to stop, as | | overheating warnings flashed across the screen. They were dead, but not all of them, I turned the ship to where the half destroyed pirate ship had been, | | and saw it attempting to escape. I floored the thrusters, the sprint booster launching the ship forward, and tuned to block off the ships escape. I was | | about to pull the firing triggers once more but was stopped by the coms notifying an incoming call. I answered the calls, and a image of a grey bearded | | pirate, tattoos covering his face, came through a static view. “Air!” he gasped “Please! Air!” as he clawed at the monitor, face turning blue. | | “I’m sorry…” I whispered, as I forced myself to pull the trigger. The orange beam shot towards the wounded vessel, and ripped right through the main | | command module, the final overloading explosion of the ship`s main generator filled Eve`s display with a beautiful mix of orange and red. I looked at | | my hands, they wouldn’t stop shaking, I have brought balance to the unbalanced… | | | | I returned Eve to the originally planned route, the next station shouldn’t be far now… | | | | I have attatched the status of the ship for reference history... | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- | | |..............................Ship Status...............................| |..............Ship Inventory.............| | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- | | | | | | | | | Charlie -- Girder #1 -- Weight: 3000kg / Durability: 500J | | -- 50000 sub credits = 50 credits | | | | Charlie -- Girder #2 -- Weight: 3000kg / Durability: 8000J | | -- 7687/11000 Liters of Oxygen: 69.88% | | | | Charlie -- Girder #3 -- ***CONNECTION LOST*** | | -- 42/60 meal rations | | | | Charlie -- Girder #4 -- Weight: 3000kg / Durability: 8000J | | -- 2 emergency med kits | | | | Charlie -- Girder #5 -- ***CONNECTION LOST*** | | -- 50m of towing cable | | | | | | | | | | Charlie -- Booster #1 -- Weight: 3000kg / Durability: 4000J | ------------------------------------------- | | | -- Boost Power: 360,000N | | | | Charlie -- Booster #2 -- Weight: 3000kg / Durability: 3500J | | | | -- Boost Power: 360,000N | | | | Charlie -- Booster #3 -- Weight: 3000kg / Durability: 4000J | | | | -- Boost Power: 360,000N | | | | Charlie -- Booster #4 -- Weight: 3000kg / Durability: 500J | | | | -- Boost Power: 360,000N | | | | | | | | Delta -- Girder #1 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 16000J | | | | Delta -- Girder #2 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 16000J | | | | Delta -- Girder #3 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 16000J | | | | Delta -- Girder #4 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 16000J | | | | Delta -- Girder #5 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 16000J | | | | Delta -- Girder #6 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 15000J | | | | Delta -- Girder #7 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 14500J | | | | Delta -- Girder #8 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 16000J | | | | Delta -- Girder #9 -- Weight: 8000kg / Durability: 12500J | | | | | | | | Delta -- Booster #1 -- Weight: 4000kg / Durability: 8000J | | | | -- Boost Power: 480,000N | | | | Delta -- Booster #2 -- Weight: 4000kg / Durability: 8000J | | | | -- Boost Power: 480,000N | | | | Delta -- Booster #3 -- Weight: 4000kg / Durability: 8000J | | | | -- Boost Power: 480,000N | | | | Delta -- Booster #4 -- Weight: 4000kg / Durability: 8000J | | | | -- Boost Power: 480,000N | | | | | | | | Delta -- Sprint Booster #1 -- Weight: 4000kg / Durability: 8000J | | | | -- Boost Power: 960,000N | | | | -- Durration: 4.00sec | | | | -- Recharge: 1.00sec | | | | | | | | Foxtrot -- Laser Cannon #1 -- Weight: 6000kg / Durability: 14000J | | | | -- Energy Dispersal: 4000J | | | | -- RoF: 4Hz | | | | -- Firing Status: ***OVERHEAT WARNING*** | | | | Foxtrot -- Laser Cannon #2 -- Weight: 6000kg / Durability: 15500J | | | | -- Energy Dispersal: 4000J | | | | -- RoF: 4Hz | | | | -- Firing Status: ***OVERHEAT WARNING*** | | | | | | | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | | | |\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\[LOG END]////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The docking master cleared me for parking after i wired him the 5 credits he asked for. I piloted the | | wounded Eve into hanger bay A023 taking care to position her between the green and red guiding lights on the runway. | | | | I turned on the mag locks on the landing gear, and waited for the docking crew came into the hanger. I began to think about the pirates, and how | | I ripped their unbalanced ships apart, firing volley after volley into their hulls, even long before their crew... expired, making their ships even | | more unbalanced then before... | | | | I was torn from my thoughts, as I heard a knocking at the command module’s exit hatch. I got out of my seat and released the safety lock and opened | | the door. Outside a boy, no older then the age of 16 smiled at me, dressed in a ragged oil smeared engineer’s suit that had seen far better days. | | "Hey there Capt`n", the boy yelled over the noise of refueling tankers, "I cond`t help noticing yer ship got a good few dents in em". | | "I would be happy to fix her up for ya", he said happily as he beaconed me outside. "Fer a price of course", he said after a short pause as we walked | | down the metal ramp, "I’m the best of all em engineers here, guarantied" he said with a smile. I sighed "Is 900 sub credits enough for your services?", | | I asked, the boy turned around, walking backwards as he surveyed the ship`s damage. After about five steps he lost his footing, crashing backwards | | into the metal ramp he yelped, and slid the rest of the way down with his hands wrapped around the back of his head. The man running the refueling | | tanker started to laugh loud enough to be heard clear across the hanger, as I helped hip up to his feet. "Are you ok?" I asked, as he tenderly | | rubbed the back of his head, "Yeah" he said grinning slightly "I’ve had worse things happen, I once fell off a ship I was repairing into a tank of | | grease oil, took them about three hours to pull me out, course everything slips right out of me hands" he said with a laugh. That explains the suit, | | I though to myself. | | | | "So, your first time here at Paladin`s Hammer?" he asked looking me over, "Yes, this is my first time at this base" I said as I looked around. | | "This used to be a peacekeeper base, correct?", I asked. The boy spit, "Yeah, it was, till those yellow-bellied bastards ran off bout twenty years | | ago", he said angrily, "Good thing they left too, theys nothing but trouble". "Who runs this base now?" I asked curiously. "Oh, uh them mining group | | called the... uhhhm... da uhhhh..." the boy scratched his head. I guess he hit his head harder than I thought, I thought to myself as we walked | | towards the hanger`s exit. | | | | The boy was still lost in thought as we walked down the hallway, the sounds from the hanger muffled as the doors closed | | behind us. "Ah!" the boy cried, "That’s what they’re called" he said pointing to a spot on the wall. In the dimly lit hallway written in neon green | | paint was the name "Chej Doáb", I struggled to comprehend how it would be said. It was by far the most unbalanced name I had ever heard of. | | | | "Yeah, weird name" said the boy noticing me staring at the wall slightly mortified. "Them leader is scary though", his voice suddenly getting a | | bit quieter as we walked down the empty hallway "They call her Admiral Nakano, she a real piece of work, chased off thirty pirates in a mining | | barge, man, a mining barge!". "And that mining barge thing is huge, takes up the largest hanger in the entire base, she calls it the Naginata", | | he said his eyes growing bigger by the second. | | | | As he finished his ranting about the mining group`s leader, we came to the end of the hallway, the big steel doors covered in graffiti. "So Capt`n | | uhhh..." he started, "Renner", I said sticking out my hand. "Cool name" the boy said smiling as he shook my hand, "My names Slip". | | | | | |\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\[LOG END]////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Admiral Nakano, is that right? An interesting name - I believe it means something along the lines of 'central field'. Very fitting given that she appears to be the center of attention at this station.
I have always had a soft spot for the Japanese people and culture. In fact my ship is named after one of their most revered symbols, the cherry blossom. According to them, the sakura represents serenity and beauty in their finest forms - apparently a far cry from Paladin's current status.

Ya got good eyes Auburn, I always find it hard giving names to people in my stories, names are kinda like covers to a book in my opinion.
Renner = same spelling forwards or back (balanced) in a way... Renner's ship => Eve = same spelling forwards or back (balanced), but also a symbol of beginnings, and the first to commit sin... Slip = simple, funny name that reminds us he's a klutz Nakano = the name of a famous woman warrior, the 'central field' meaning you noticed Nakano's ship => Naginata = the weapon of choice the famous Japanese woman used in battle, a sort of spear...
I love hiding little Easter eggs within these logs, some are easier to find then others. Glad that someone is reading these by the way, thank you all so much. \(*~*)/
