Hi! I finally have the module render tech in place, as evidenced by the new command module sprite. This is a little hokey, and due to some interaction with the old bloom layer (which I can't remove yet because you would not be able to see atmospheres) it's quite dark. BUT it works, and it demonstrates that my deferred renderer is functioning and feasible. Next build I'll add mip-mapping, so the command module isn't so jaggy when viewed at a distance. It's interesting playing without little thruster effects on the command module - it feels much less responsive. I might have to add them them sooner than I had planned. On the other hand, adding enough new modules to build a chunky lit ship would also be awesome. I guess we'll just see where I'm at on Monday Changes for this build are: * New sector seed - As seen in my earlier playthrough video. * Huge amounts of under-the-hood render work * Placeholder command module sprite for player

After browsing some Game of Thrones Wiki articles, I feel as if I wanted to say "Winter is Coming" but I bet everyone would slap me so I won't.
Rendering is Coming.
I am particularly excited. Keep up the great work, Farbs! I'm checking your wee bloggy every day for morsels of info. I am getting your face tattooed onto my butt, also. Praise Farbs. (praise Farbs)

Hahaaha... Oh god... Just imagine...
Floohman walks into a tattoo parlor, and hands a photo of a very pixelated face to a bearded guy behind the counter. The man looks at the photo, and then to Foohman and asks "Where`s this going?". With a completely casual face he takes off his pants, and answers... "On my butt".

I've had to play this on Firefox due to some errors which has occurred in Google Chrome, which has lead to some lag and not the best of experiences. Anyway;
This is some well done rendering, I must say. The shading and lightening effects are very detailed and make it seem fairly realistic. So, you did a good job on that, Farbs. Really like the way Alpha modules are reflected on your own command module.
Over to some visual bugs: - When playing Captain Jameson on Google Chrome, the command module doesn't appear visually. It is still selectable and moveable in any case. I'd assume you can fasten modules to it, however, that is yet to be tested first. - The intro-screen doesn't seem to have any background image in Google Chrome.

It seems the version of flash player embedded in chrome isn't quite up to date, or just doesn't support the new hardware rendering features. Hopefully they fix that up soon.

I'ts been months since the last update but I keep coming back to this. Just like with Minecraft, I get that craving every so often.
The last run I had I found like, 3 or 4 oxy tanks which NEVER happens. I still ponder the appeal of this game and how it could be expanded into a full Steam title. We'll have the remix soon to tide us over, but I still dream of the Dawn Star expanding into something more fleshed out. All the ground work is pretty much there. I imagine more RPG elements. A story, missions, all within the "open world" setup. Maybe with 4 or 5 large sectors that you can backtrack in. I still miss the 0.6 concept of no instadeath, but just respawning at the last jumpgate. You're not totally screwed as long as you squirreled away some mods in a warehouse somewhere.
But yeah the core game itself is still super fun, just some structured elements would make the world feel less cold and sterile. Like, not being able to progress to the next area until you get a certain amount of cash, but the way you go about doing that could be incredibly varied. Finding some rare mods for a client, search and destroy missions, scrapping, mining...whatever suits your style. Ahh I can dream!

Your suggestions remind me of the old Starfighter: Disputed Galaxy. It's a shame that game got taken down due to the hackers.
If I had to suggest anything... Well... I'd suggest making apartment stations useful. I think giving them the ability of the old docking stations would be good. The idea of staying over night at an inn and waking up to find that the enemies have moved would be cool. Then again, giving them the ability to move over time on their own would be nice as well.
Also, why not make some new station types? Okay, time for some brainstorming:
-Cargo stations Cargo stations only spawn if there is an oxygen station in the station cluster. Automated cargo drones move between different stations, carrying oxygen from place to place. Cargo drones should be covered in a stupid amount of high-level shields. This is a government installation, after all.
-Production stations These guys are where that oxygen comes from. That oxygen needs to come from somewhere, after all. You may catch a glimpse of tiny machines extracting minerals from nearby rocks, and beaming it back to the station. Only spawns in asteroid fields, and only with it's respective oxy/cargo stations.
-Defense stations A heavily shielded/armored station with a single turret mounted on it. Said turret is about as powerful as the average laser of the stations level, but has far longer range. Very rare. Only spawns with oxy/carg stations. (ammo needs to come from somewhere!)
(I think I might edit the production station idea later, as it seems a bit redundant with refinery stations existing.)

More station ideas: -CM Upgrade A very small station that only works once, and is destroyed on completion of task. You attach your command mod, and it will upgrade it for better health, manuvering, etc. Lack of money will NOT destroy the station. -Clone Station Borrowing the cloning mechanic from Impostor, this specail station works by recording your ship's configuration, and saves it. Then (if you so choose), ALL of the parts (excluding the CM) get upgraded to the level of the station. [1]Horribly rare, but very cheap and 1-time use.[/i] -Fury Station This station activates a hidden mode in your system " ?", called Fury Module. When turned on, all of your equipment is doubled in it's respective stat (speed, firepower, thrust), BUT your durability goes down by 125% when on. -Drone Station When purchased, tiny needlers come to your aid and act as supplementary fire. Purchase price will vary. -Base Relay Stations These special stations create a network of wormholes that teleport you into other bases you have explored. Good if you are in a high-level area and are trapped. -Merchants Finally these guys have purpose! YAY! They appear randomly, selling anything on their ship (oxy, lasers, photon spears, boosters, etc.) for a price depending on the merchant. -Auction (bear with me) These stations act like auction houses, you put stuff in, bid, sell, etc. You do this with other bots AND (if possible) other players. And this is not a station, but PLZ do this, Farbs. -Chat Room Talk with other players and help out. Like Foohman, me, Van, hell, Farbs if he's on! Hope you like these, too!

Chat Rooms COULD be stations, called Communication Centers. They connect the player and other players from parallel universes to communication networks. Only 4 exist: 1 Charlie center, 1 Foxtrot center, 1 India center, and 1 Juliet center (no Kilo center, for obvious reasons). There are FAR more networks. The ability to enter a network depends on both the communication center's level and the player's command module level (that is, if you add in Notdoppler's CM Upgrade station. If you do not, then it only depends on the communication center.). For example, here we have a Charlie center and a Bravo player. The player can only contact Alpha and Bravo networks. Then he upgrades to Delta. He can access Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie networks, but he must go to a Foxtrot center to access a Delta network. Uh... Yeah.

Although, the chat would require people to be on at the same time...

Firefox has stopped showing the command mod on the new build ... And chrome sucks ass for lag. the more complicated this game gets the less fun its slowly becoming.
really successor was a great model of the game .. we just wanted better weapons and building blocks :/
I hate to be all minimalist about it , and FARBS , you have put together one hell of a fine game with alpha and now darkstar.

*I see my friend got promoted to Captain XD* You want to know what really pisses me off? The fact that I have NO IDEA which face I'm attaching parts to (which fucks up the controls), and that if I'm in the middle of a firefight, I can't see my CM!! Dammit Adobe, why did you fuck this up? Leave it alone!! FUUUUUUUUUUU-
