We kind of have a surplus of graphing paper at our house. So, since it works so nicely for Captain Forever ship drawings, I figured I might as well make a little thread for 'em! I'll probably update this whenever the scanner doesn't act up, so for now have some earlier drawings. You guys have probably seen all of these before. xD They're pretty darn large, though, so expect long loading times. Sorry! :c Oh yeah, and here's some of my proposed fancy modules 'n stuff. I can take requests, too! Just give me an approximate build style, a part level, and if you want to specify weaponry or rare modules, feel free.

Hey, these are pretty damn gnarly! If you fancy, I've always had a Forever ship in my mind that I figured Kenneth - an old mining Captain who features in one of the "stories" I've posted on here would pilot. It follows the ordinary mining ship layout: Command module at the very back centre, with a series of heavy engines. The immediate sides have small sponsons (imagine a stubby T shape) that hold more engines and side-firing missile launchers. The rest of the ship is comprised to two very long arms, capped with two cargo doors you can imagine a design for. In reality, I imagine the mineral cargo is held in "stasis" within these arms, which is turned on and off at whim. The main forward armament consists of two batteries of two lasers, and two protruding ramming spikes. At the top of the arms, on the outside, planck shield generators protect four Uniboosters (on each side). I always figured the ship would be battered, bruised, outdated, rusted and slow, with faded paint and more than one scorched panel, yet sturdy and and almost friendly, with that rugged space rogue charm.
If my description was a bit naff, I'll post something else. Extra modules (Oxy tanks, repair modules) you can add at your own discretion! Otherwise, I'd love to see it on paper! If you're feeling funky, try adding a texture to the parts!

Aight, here we go! More sketches due to the scanner cooperating for once! This was an attempt to create a Balancer vessel, which Perez requested (he said to make a bigger-than-average balancer) Here's a carrier. Doesn't it look so much like one of my barge ships? And here's some command module variant ideas! They're probably terribly balanced though.

Here's an image I forgot to put in here - it's what I think the interior of a Command Module looks like. Scale's probably off and since I freehanded the whole thing the lines are terrible but I like how it turned out!

Wow. I had the idea to doodle Captain Forever ships on graph paper a long time ago but my general artistic ineptitude dissuaded me from the prospect. One, that was a lot of big words, and two, that command module is very detailed!

This thread is really great! I just hope I can make the modules look this cool when I get to creating the 3d models.

Here's a few ships with a wide variety of modules drawn in my artstyle - Quality is kind of iffy, but this was another 1hr freehand drawing.

^ Bloody hell.
That is all. So yeah, starting to visually see what Forever will look like once it's been fleshed out, and I like it. Lots.

That Chrono Gear. Holy sht, that Chrono Gear. Please make the local spacetime around it undulate and wave back and forth when it's on a ship and running.

Are the rear modules on the Needlers Transrotators?

The one on the back of the needler in the top left is a transrotator, see, it has the X inside the circle. The needler in the bottom left has a regular translocator. No X.

I love these things. I wish I had this much graphing paper ;.;

Aight, so clearing things up. Top needler's back module is a Transrotator, bottom needler's is a Translocator. Furthest rear engine on the central ship is a Sprint Booster, and furthest rear engine on the largest ship is a Booster MK2. The module attaching the Planck to the center ship is a Repair Module. Should have a new graphing paper image coming up soon - I kinda butchered my latest freehand, so not sure if I should post it.

You have not drawn a Ramming Spike yet. Not that it'd be difficult, I'm just interested to see what your imagining of a hi-res spike is. You also haven't drawn either of the new modules yet (the Primary Booster and Photon Lance), but that's a bit more to be expected.

Do you guys think I should just draw each module separately instead of on a ship so we have a module base to work off of for future sketches?
I'm not sure if it's the most efficient way, but it could prove useful.

You should definately do it - frankly I enjoy seeing anything you do so don't worry if you feel it's not quite on par with your latest. I have to say, your skill has totally improved

Quick update because on a not-at-home computer. Forgot to do this in the morning. :V Will simply be posting direct links now, since apparently putting them in the thread directly breaks all the interwebs. i.imgur.com/l7G8Gmm.jpg - Pilot drawing! Not very good. i.imgur.com/OLfYOoK.jpg - Big ship, has some module ideas i.imgur.com/EmF0405.jpg - Alternative artstyle ideas, terminology is probably off but oh well! i.imgur.com/HVoR29h.jpg - Buncha module ideas. Some good, some that make me wonder what horrendous cocktails of medications, coffee, and instant noodles I was on at the time. i.imgur.com/dJvutGB.jpg - Something that isn't Captain Forever related? -GASP- (this is essentially just an artstyle example)

Man. I really like the look of that Photon Lance. Perhaps that could be a separate module entirely, though? One that requires two modules, and arcs electricity from one, through a nearby ship, to the other? Short ranged, but doesn't need to be aimed. I think the Photon Lance should be more of a hard light surface, like the shields except blindingly bright.
::edit:: Love the ramming spike. Goes with my belief that they're covered in trace amounts of antimatter.

Well, the photon lance's design makes it so you could have a lot of possible lance appearances, from the hard-light projection to my preferred electric zappy stuff and other things.
The ramming spike was actually based off of a component from a robot fighting game that was basically three razor blades put together into a spike. Liked the look of it, so I modified it somewhat (the cross section of the spike would basically be a "+" ), armored the bottom to explain the ramming spike's high health, and voila.
